Tisdale’s history

Collection

The Tisdale area first appears in the written record in 1690, when English explorer Henry Kelsey passed through while exploring the Carrot River. The post office opened on February 1, 1904, in the provisional District of Saskatchewan, North-West Territories. The community was first called Doghide, after the Doghide River that flows through town. When the railway arrived, it was renamed Tisdale in honour of F.W. Tisdale, an employee of the Canadian Northern Railway.
